To say they suck is an insult to all trash metal maniacs. Metallica never suck, it's the fans that suck! devil.png

Metallica never sucked in the 80s ...

However , I think they begin selling out in the 90s when they changed their thrash-oriented sound to a more accepted sound in mainstream .

      St. Anger is a failure

    • they SUCKED so much...

they brought down Napster... betraying the very things that made them so huge..

in the beginning, they told their fans to trade tapes.. it was the music and people listening to music that mattered...

then for money, they brought down napster...

as for sucking, this says it all => Swizz Beatz with Metallica

      swizz??? beatz???

.....normally after a few successful releases, most band will want to experiment or innovate their music. Can you imagine if all their albums sound like "Seek and destroy" or "Master of puppets"? Then the fans will start calling them sell out for not coming out with new materials. Whether it is the thrash era or after the "black" album it is the same Metallica. Lots of new fans after hearing the "Black" album embraced their previous stuffs. WHY!? can't the the fans who supported them from the begining do the same??

St. Anger was made not to please anybody.. Go and buy the DVD "Some kind of a moster". And you will know the reasons why....wink.png

.....who care they brought down Napster. There were benefits enjoyed by both parties already. You don't called a band sucked just because they "Collaborate" with other artists. Please, the word is "COLLABORATE".  It is not as if Metallica starts rapping to 50 cents' song or covered My chemical romance's songs. Before this Swizz Beatz thingy, Metallica had collaborated with Punk rap metal 'Sun 41' and also with Cello melody metal band "Apocalyptica".  Why nobody cry foul?

Remember that Megadeth put out a few below standard albums and no one say they sell out? The problem lies with the double standard of metal fans....

.....nahh, St Anger was made for personal reasons. Why not check out this song "St Anger" if you haven't done so. I particularly love this song and video. One of my favourite Metallica music video. Look at the rage and intensity of James, Lars, Kirk and Robert....It just make me fucking rock up!!

.....It happened that Metallica is the biggest metal band and there are too much focus on them. People who don't like them picked on them. If they don't like then just go listen to underground thrash bands like; Obituary or Six feets under...

i guess that they changed their sound to capture a new audiance, but changing their sound pissed their old fans who loved their killer thrash sound that Kill Em All offered.

    • biggest.. most selling.. most popular.. doesn't make them suck any less...

      you missed the point..

in the beginning, they said it was all about the music.. about getting heard.. it "wasn't about the money"

      then Napster happened...

which meant that whatever they played, they said, they professed to believe in, everything the fans listened to their music about, was a lie... it was all about money..

      they betrayed their fans' loyalty..

      they sold out..

now, if that doesn't suck, what does?

    • True Metal Fans recognise the Black Album and Kill Em All as the best and original albums Metallica has ever produced..Cunning Stunts recognised as one of the best...no met fans have listened to St Anger or Garage Inc and hail them as a truly Met album...

    • metallica played in singapore once upon a time ago and it is still the best concert i have ever been to. we were young then and i remember my buddy went to peninsula to buy a mett tee just for the occassion.

i still wear the metallica singapore concert tee today once in a while; with my tummy tucked in of course.

metallica kinda lost me when they released the collabo album with the SFO. i actually bought st. anger but never really finished the album. it is listed under my `trash bin' cd listing as one of the worst albums i have bought, sitting right next to michael bolton.

k, thanks for reminding and putting this aging rocker in his place...wink.png

when i say metallica is good, i really mean it. i caught some major acts in my time, including u2, r.e.m., loudness and rage against the machine, etc. and i would still place metallica's concert top of the heaps. they were THAT good then.
